Sada is waiting for Click!

After almost losing her career in Tamil and other south Indian films, Tamil actress Sada is now eagerly waiting for the release of her forthcoming Bollywood flick Click. In this film, she plays the lead opposite Shreyas Talpade. According to Sada, she is exposing her glamour to maximum extent in her debut Hindi movie. Says Sada, "I play the role of a glamourous model in the film. I hope this movie will fetch me many other offers in Bollywood". Sada claims that there is no language barrier for actors and she’s game for meaty roles in any regional film. Sada’s next Tollywood film A aa E ee seems to be promising and would be an "ideal comeback film”, she asserts. Hope ’Click’ will click for Sadha in Bollywood!

Nakul injured, shoot called off

Nakul, the dance sensation who is still synonymous with the “Naaka Mukka” number, has injured himself during the shoot of his next film, ’Kandha Kottai’. The movie has Nakul and Poorna in the lead and shooting has been going on in Madhavaram, in Chennai, for a few days now. A fight sequence was canned and the actor, it is reported, had very dangerous stunts sequences to do, and he was all game for such stunts. The actor, despite being the brother of a popular star Devayani, has completely worked by himself for his success, and is always found wanting to walk the extra mile. This scene required him to break the front glass of a lorry and he had to swing on a rope as he did this.

The actor, unfortunately, lost his balance and fell off the ground. This severely injured his knee after which he was rushed to a hospital. Doctors said there was nothing dangerous and yet advised three days rest for the actor. Shooting for the film will resume soon in the same location.

‘Vettaikkaran’ hunts for the villain in a market

Shoot for Vijay’s ’Vettaikkaran’ is going on in full steam in AVM Studios in the city. After a hectic schedule in Rajamundhary, the crew has proceeded to shoot in hotspots in the city, and is currently involved in a fight sequence shoot in AVM Studios. The fight sequences, which have always been a specialty in Vijay’s films and with Kanal Kannan as the stunt choreographer, who has become a star choreographer after his work for ’Ayan’, one expects a lot of breathtaking actions in the film. The set that has been erected for the film resembles a market place and has an elaborate chasing sequence, involving Vijay and villain Sri Hari.

’Vettiakkaran’ is being directed by Babusivan, and is said to be a pacy entertainer. To keep the action sequences interesting, the director and stuntmen are said to have taken a lot of care. ’Vettaikkaran’ sees Vijay pairing up with Anushka for the first time. The film has created a lot of hype already, being the actor’s 49th film. With this film being a year end release, the actor is said to begin his next venture in September this year.

Silambarasan's U-turn to be ‘Nallavan’

Seems like Silambarasan is really bored of playing ‘Kettavan’ in films! Considering an image change now, the actor has gone in for a soft spoken assistant director’s role in ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’, in which he pairs with Trisha for the second time after ‘Alai’. The movie is directed by Gautham Menon and is said to be candy floss romance like ‘Minnale’. AR Rahman composes the music for the film. Following this, the actor is said to have signed up for another romantic film for youngsters, titled ‘Kadhalaanavan’.

Either NIC Arts or Silambarasan will be producing it. The film, if gossip mills are to believed, will also be directed by him. The actor had also announced that he would be part of ‘Poda Podi’, in which he is paired with Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar. The film is said to be shot entirely in Canada, and the actor had announced that he would move to this project later this year. Following these two, the actor has also agreed to work for a film with debutant Pandian, ‘Varusanaadu’. And yes, with all these projects announced, discussed or guessed it looks like his film ‘Kettavan’ is being junked by the actor.

Rajinikanth’s Sultan in July!

Soundarya Rajinikanth and her Ocher Studios are coming out with their magnum opus animated film Sultan- The Warrior, featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in July. First it was said that Reliance Adlabs Big Pictures would relese the film, then it was said that Warner Brothers will be part of the project. Now it looks like Soundarya will have to not only complete the project, but also distribute it. Some more animated scenes and a song is yet to be picturised. And with A.R Rahman very busy with his international commitments, it is still not clear who will provide the background score for the film.

Asin says Dad comes first

Anybody who has seen Asin at a public event is aware of the rapport she shares with her dad, Joseph Thottumkal, or JT, as he is popularly known. The two are found together forever, with her daddy dear guiding her in as many ways as possible. In fact, her dad, a businessman in his own right, was largely responsible for the actress to shape her career properly. So imagine Asin’s chagrin when she is told that her father is suffering from acute appendicitis and needs to undergo surgery soon!

The actress cancelled all her film commitments and rushed to a hospital in Andheri to be at her dad’s bedside, to make sure he is well. Suriya - The Iron Man of Kollywood!

The stupendous box-office success of Ayan , has put Suriya in the A league of actors in Kollywood. At Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai, the film has netted an awesome Rs 81 lakhs in 17 days, which is the highest ever collection recorded for a Tamil film in a multiplex! In Mayajaal on ECR, Chengalpet area, the film has netted a record Rs 63 Lakhs in 17 days. Among the younger lot of actors, he is now riding a wave and right there at the top after a hat trick of hits- Vel (2007), Vaaranam Aayiram (2008) and now Ayan (2009). He has zoomed past his rivals, due to hard work and smart marketing. Ayan is Suriya’s 23rd film and the biggest hit in his career. The way this K.V Anand film is making merry at the box-office, it should collect Rs 35 crores from theatricals alone in the long run. Added to that Suriya is one of the few actors in Tamil who has got a market in Andhra.

Ayan is being dubbed into Telugu as Veedu Okkatte, and releasing soon. Let us take a look at the smart moves Suriya has made. First and foremost he insisted the film has a basic content and the packaging should have something different. For example in Ayan, the fight in the streets and on the roof when the hero goes to Congo to take delivery of diamonds has been shot in a very realistic and believable manner. Says K.V Anand, the director of Ayan: “We were very particular that our hero is not a larger than life guy who can fight a dozen guys bigger than him at one go. It was one factor that worked with the audiences.” Yes, Suriya makes his films look real within the commercial format and does not try to thrust down his “heroism” down the throat of his audiences.

It clearly means his fans trust him whether he does a mass K.S Ravikumar/ Hari or a classy K.V Anand/ Gautham Menon film. Suriya’s formula of success is that he works with good directors, reads his script carefully before signing up and does his homework well. He knows that it is up market Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpet (suburbs of Chennai), audiences that bring in 70 percent of the revenue for his films in the state. So his films are made keeping the sensibility of these elite ‘C’ class viewers in mind. Meanwhile the buzz in tinsel town is that his next film Udayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Films K.S Ravi Kumar directed Aadhavan has become red hot in the trade. The trade is confident that the film will be sold all areas for over Rs 30 crore, something which competing hero films has not achieved so far!

Anushka stepping into bollywood

Following the footsteps of south heroines like Asin and Shriya, yet another south actress is all set to make it big in Bollywood. Gorgeous Anushka would be stepping into the world of Hindi Cinema with a movie which is going to be a remake of her Telugu blockbuster Arundhathi. The film did well at the box office, not only in the Telugu version but also when it was dubbed in Tamil and now the Hindi audiences would get a chance to cherish the great storyline of this flick. Earlier, Asin was preferred by Producer Madhu Mantena of Geetha Arts (Producer of Aamir’s Ghajini). But then, as the producer of Telugu version M Shyam Prasad decided to make his entry into Bollywood remaking this film, Asin was dropped from the option. Actress Tamannaah Debut In Malayalam Films

Tantalizing damsel Tamanna , one of the highly-sought-after heroines in Tamil-Telugu films today, is all set to make her debut in Malayalam films with debutant director Prakash Kasi Nath’s Campus Days, produced by Saudamini Jayan under the banner of Devi Creations, sources said. Touted to be the next “born to win” after the reigning of Trisha, Nayantara and Shriya, teenage sensation Tamanna will don the role of Leena, who wins the title of Miss Kerala. However, it is not confirmed whether Tamanna’s role in Campus Days is a cameo or lead. Debutant Kiran Karthik is the hero. Leading Malayalam actress Bhama is the heroine. Bhama dons the role of Meenakshi, a college student.

Veteran actor Mukesh will play the role of a college lecturer. Also in the cast are Riyaz Khan, Indrans, Suraj Venjaramoodu and others. B. Joys wields the camera. Lyrics are by Anil Panachooraan and music is scored by Alex Paul. More details are yet to be announced. Beginning her career with the victory of Happy Days in Telugu and Padikathavan in Tamil, Tamanna’s latest success is Suriya starrer Ayan, emerging to be a huge box office grosser in recent times. However, her other recent release Aanandha Thaandavam, directed by Gandhi Krishna, has garnered only mixed responses from the audience.

Madhavan’s ‘Guru En Aalu’ is finally hitting the screens this week. Directed by remake-expert Selvah, the film is an adaptation of the Hindi hit ‘Yes Boss’, which had Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. Madhavan and Mamta Mohandas play the lead in this film in which Abbas plays Madhavan’s boss. Vivek is playing an important role in this film too; in fact, he even has a few scenes in which he plays a proper woman. The movie is a hilarious comedy based on the 1997 Bollywood flick, and as been in the making for about a year now. It was originally supposed to hit screens late last year, but the film’s release has been delayed for various reasons, and this Friday, it will take on biggie ‘Mariyadhai’ apart form ‘Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puravum’.

This movie is important to Madhavan, to stabilize his position in Kollywood, after the positive reviews that ‘Yaavarum Nalam’ has fetched him. In fact, ‘Yaavarum Nalam’ and Guru En Aalu see Madhavan playing such contrasting roles that they will showcase Madhavan’s ability to play varied roles. Music for the film is by Srikanth Deva. Jayavel Murugan, a leading distributor in USA, says "I’m happy that the film is getting released now. It’s coming immediately after ‘Yaavarum Nalam’, which makes it all the more significant for Madhavan’s career in Tamil.”

Nayantara creates a controversy in temple

At a time when fans are ready to build Nayantara a temple of her, the actress has picked a fight on Vishu in Killikaavu Temple in Manicheri, Kerala. Nayantara is currently working on ‘Bodyguard’ in Malayalam, and has been shooting for the film near Ottapalam in Kerala. On Vishu, deliberated as the Malayalam New Year, the actress has paid a visit to the temple. Nayantara was refused entry into the temple as she was wearing a “Salwar Kameez”, as temple authorities said devotees were not allowed if they were wearing Salwars or pants. The actress reportedly shoved them aside and tried to enter the temple, when fans swarmed around her.

On understanding the situation, they asked Nayantara to apologise to the temple authorities for disrespecting them. The actress, who was not willing to apologise, called the crew of ‘Bodyguard’. But this attempt turned futile, as Nayantara was finally forced by the crew to apologise to temple authorities. This created a flutter in the temple as there was commotion for over an hour. When contacted, Nayantara denied the entire affair and said the controversy arouse when people outside the temple, who were under the influence of alcohol, abused her.

Asin wins Best Actress award!

Asin is making headlines again! The trendy actress bagged the Best Actress award from the prestigious Singapore-based International Tamil Film Awards (ITFA). She was recognized for her role as a traditional South Indian girl in Kamal Haasan’s Tamil film ‘Dasavatharam’. The ITFA is an organisation that recognizes the contribution of film personalities and actors towards Tamil cinema on an international scale. Shobana turns Ash’s choreographer

Ace danseuse, Padmashree Shobana, is currently on an exciting project! Coaching Ash Bharatanatyam. Surprised about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s sudden interest in learning the classical form? Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is training herself to play the Tamil carnatic music teacher that she plays in Maniratnam’s ‘Raavan’. And it was for this that Ash had earlier learnt carnatic music briefly to play her part in the film, which is being simultaneously made in Tamil and Hindi as ‘Raavana’ and ‘Raavan’, respectively.

But it is said that the actress also had to do a Bharatanatyam number for one of the songs and a few scenes in the film, which were canned at a dance school, with 30 children from the Bani Chakra Music and Dance school. In fact, Mani Ratnam, it is said, had personally chosen all the 30 children who would be featuring in the dance sequence, and Aishwarya had performed along with them for a brief song and a few scenes. Aishwarya’s elaborate costumes for the film have been designed by leading designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Vikram and Prtihviraj play lead roles in the film’s Tamil version, while Vikram and Abhi play the leads in the Hindi version.

Vadivelu packs up Kanthaswamy's shoot

Actor Vadivelu must be a pleased man, having found his way for retribution. If Vivek replaced him in ‘Padikkadhavan’, Vadivelu has ended the game by replacing Vivek in ‘Kanthaswamy’. The Vaigai Puyal, as he is popularly called, has completed his exclusive comedy track for Vikram-starrer ‘Kanthaswamy’ last week, thereby ending the film’s shooting portion. What is interesting is that, in the entire film, Vadivelu will not share screen space even once with Vikram! His role is said to be that of a person who is amazed by Vikram’s gravity-defying stunts and flying, and so, he starts investigating the issue by himself. How this funny search lands him in many embarrassing and equally funny situations is for the audience to wait and watch. ‘Kanthaswamy’ is being directed by Susi Ganesan and is produced by Thanu. Vikram and Shriya play the lead in this film which is expected to be a May-end release. The audio for the film will be launched this month end.

'Vettaikkaran' shooting in Chennai

The crew of Vijay’s ‘Vettaikkaran’ has returned to Chennai after a hectic shooting schedule in Rajamundhary, Andhra Pradesh. Following this, the crew has been spotted shooting in several places within Chennai, including Chennai and Adyar, for the next schedule. These scenes, however, involve only the Ilaya Thalapathy, as they are waiting for Anushka’s return. This is because Anushka, more popular as ’Arundhathee’ today, has returned to Andhra Pradesh to complete her important Telugu assignments, including ‘Varudhu’ with Mahesh Babu. ‘Vettaikkaran’, produced by AVM, is being directed by a former associate to Dharani, director Babu Sivan.

Mani Ratnam hospitalised!

India’s best known director, Mani Ratnam has been admitted to Apollo hospital in Chennai with a minor heart attack today morning ( April 15).
But what is causing anxiety is that it is the third attack that Mani had in the last five years. The first attack was in December 2004 at Panaji, Goa shortly before the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India.
He had a second attack during the shoot of Guru on top of Howrah Bridge in Kolkata in 2006.
Mani sir was planning to leave for Kerala to shoot the climax scenes of Ravaan, in the forests of Chalakudy from April 20.
He wanted to shoot near Mysore but did not get the necessary permissions and preferred to go back to Malayatoor forest where he shot initially for the film.

Shriya New Movie Chikku Bukku Has Been Closed

Sneha’s stunt goes wrong

Once known to be a cute homely girl, actress Sneha has made an image makeover in a big way. The homely girl image has now taken over by a glam-doll one. Where our actors think twice before performing on their stunt scenes, Sneha proved that she has the guts to do so.

While recently shooting for Bhavani IPS, a remake of yesteryear flick Vijayanthi IPS, the glam-doll had to perform a stunt and had to jump from a great height. But instead of opting for a body-double, the actress preferred to perform the stunt herself. But she was least aware that this stunt would turn into an unfortunate accident and the actress got badly injured while doing the stunt. The shooting of the flick was called off instantly and Sneha was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

‘Sultan’s budget is Rs 60 crores?

It is known news that superstar Rajinikanth will soon be seen in an animated version and the person to make this happen is none other than his stunningly beautiful daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth.

Apparently, her banner Ocher Studios has been making the movie ‘Sultan- the warrior’ with Rajini in the lead and reports from Kollywood are saying that the movie has been made at a whopping budget of Rs 60 crores. Also, this is being made in a total of eighteen languages and if that happens, then a new world record will be set by Rajini. The movie is being made in 3-D animation mode and the lucky girl to pair up with Rajini in this one would be Vijayalakshmi, a dusky Tamil beauty.

Shruti Hassan, daughter of Kamal is making her debut as a music composer in Thalaivan Irukkiraan, being produced by Rajkamal Films International. Being my daughter is a disadvantage for Shruti: Kamal Haasan

Tamil thespian Kamal Haasan says his name is a ’disadvantage’ for his daughter Shruti Haasan but ’she will have to live with it’. "It is certainly a disadvantage for her, but she’ll have to work with it that she is my daughter. She can’t change it and she’ll have to live with it and carry that luggage. And I’ll always be there to support her," Kamal told IANS in an interview. But the 54-year-old is all praises for his daughter who is making her Bollywood debut with "Luck". "She’s an extraordinary girl and I am not talking as her father. I observed her myself at an audition and I was really impressed. I hope there are many more who think like that. She’s found her own niche and is going in the right direction," he added. Shruti, 23, is the eldest of two daughters born to Kamal and actress Sarika and has a professional degree in music from the Musicians Institute, California. She has also learnt "North Indian classical music", informs Kamal.

Not many know that she debuted as a playback singer at the age of six, in "Thevar Magan" (1992) and her first Bollywood playback came in "Chachi 420" (1998). Her second Hindi song came in "Hey Ram" (2000), in which she sung the bilingual versions of the title track "Rama Rama" with her father, in both Hindi and Tamil. She also made a brief appearance in "Hey Ram". Her last released film song was in Gautham Menon’s "Vaaranam Aayiram". Apart from singing, Shruti has also been a model and featured in magazines like "Frappe!" and "Verve". Shruti, who also heads the rock band Extramentals, has teamed up with childhood friend and actor Imran Khan in Soham Shah’s "Luck".

Apart from Bollywood, she is also making her debut as a music composer in "Thalaivan Irukkiraan", her father’s home production Rajkamal Films International’s remake of "A Wednesday" in Tamil and Telugu respectively. "She has already recorded a song for the film and it’s come out really well," said Kamal. On being asked if he guides his daughter on her career, Kamal said: "I don’t advise her nor do we discuss our films with each other. We do discuss films on the whole and the kind of music I want for my film - that’s it." Besides films, Shruti is also going to cut her debut album this year.
